He’s home…
The big moment was 6:42 PM when United Airlines flight 7537 landed at the Greater Rochester International Airport Wednesday evening. Five minutes later, the reunion with my wife, Julie, me and our son was underway.
Now, sure, he wasn’t coming home from war…just eight months away at school in England, but, still…there was a ton of emotion. It was great.
First stop was Stevie’s favorite restaurant…Thai food at The King and I. Then, it was off to the spot that Stevie said really made him feel he was back home…the Monroe Avenue Wegmans. Of all places!
When we arrived back at the house, he saw the banner Julie had commissioned a group of neighborhood girls to make…
…we watched some sports on HDTV before we all hit the wall around 10:00pm.
Bottom line…it is great to have you home, Stevie…even if it is only for five days before you head to Vermont for the summer. I missed you.

Your blog about your son’s homecoming brought a tear to my eye. I only have one child as well and although my son is only 14, I think about the time when he will leave us for school, his own life, etc. I’m sure that people with more children will say the emotions are the same whether it’s one or 2 or more leaving the “nest.” I do, however, believe that it is a bit different when it’s your only child. It sounds like you have a wonderful relationship. That’s great. Judy Shafer
